Everyone loves and hunts for airdrops; these are great opportunities to potentially get promising tokens for free. In 2018, Ontology airdrop participants received 1000 ONT tokens, which skyrocketed 1000% after 2 months. In 2020, those who participated in Uniswap airdrop received 400 UNI tokens, which rose by 7000% in seven months.
Even if you missed these airdrops, it is not too late to make up for the loss. In 2024, the crypto community anticipates several promising token distributions. We have compiled them for you in one airdrop review worth keeping an eye on!
1. When will the LayerZero airdrop take place
LayerZero is a protocol that enables blockchains to communicate with each other. Launched in 2021, the team has since raised $263 million from investors, and the project’s valuation has reached $3 billion. This is how much money LayerZero’s owners could receive if they decide to sell the project.
The LayerZero team hinted at the possibility of creating a token in the code published after the project's launch. In December 2023, the developers announced that at the beginning of 2024, they would share plans to launch the coin.
LayerZero is perhaps the most anticipated airdrop of this year. Read our article to find out how to prepare and increase your chances of receiving free coins.
2. Is it worth waiting for an airdrop from Linea
Linea is a Layer2 (L2) solution for Ethereum. The team is creating tools that help reduce the ETH overwhelming by moving some tasks to an additional level.
The ConsenSys team, a leading blockchain software developer, stands beside the Linea creation. It was founded by one of the Ethereum developers, Canadian entrepreneur Joseph Lubin. The team’s most famous product is the MetaMask cryptocurrency wallet, which is used by 30 million people.
The ConsenSys team has not yet shared the details of the Linea token distribution. However, the L2 solution is almost ready (the alpha version was launched in July 2023), indicating that in 2024, the project may launch its own token via airdrop. There are no exact dates on the roadmap yet.
3. Will the zkSync airdrop take place in 2024
zkSync is also a Layer2 solution for Ethereum. The team proposed tools for processing part of the ETH operations outside its blockchain. The project was launched in 2020.
The zkSync protocol already ranks 5th among the most popular Ethereum L2 solutions due to its low fees. Transferring tokens via zkSync costs $0.09, and exchanges cost $0.29. The price tag of the closest competitor is Loopring: $0.09 per transfer and $0.60 per exchange.
zkSync is being developed by the Matter Labs team. The developers received funding from the Ethereum Foundation, a non-profit organization that supports and technically improves the ETH ecosystem.
The timing and details of the zkSync airdrop are not covered yet, but the developers have repeatedly hinted.
4. What is known about the Base airdrop
Base is another second-layer solution network for Ethereum, built on the Optimism L2 project solutions and supported by Coinbase, the second-largest crypto exchange in terms of trading volume.
The Base network differs from other L2 solutions by offering the opportunity to build decentralized applications (dApps) on top of it. These are applications built on smart contracts (a digital analogue of ordinary contracts, which prescribe the sequence of actions for programs). Decentralized applications are fully automated. They can be embodied in a crypto exchange or a landing protocol.
Base's L2 solution can also be used to issue tokens. Not all of its competitors support this feature. If you want to figure out who is launching tokens and why, read our analysis.
Base launched its full L2 solution in August 2023. Since then, the volume of assets blocked for network needs (total value locked, TVL) has been constantly growing, which means the tool is in demand. Now, the TVL of the project is $455 million, it is in 9th place in the top 10 largest blockchain networks by metric. For comparison, Avalanche, which ranks 8th, has a TVL of $915 million. And the leader of the ranking, Ethereum, has $29.4 billion.
TVL shows how many assets users have transferred to the network in order to conduct transactions on it, escaping from the original blockchain.
Base’s analogues already have a native token for paying fees, so many believe that Base will also launch a coin. The team did not make any announcements about the airdrop but also did not state that there would be no launch.
5. When might the Aztec airdrop be announced
Aztec is a crypto project for creating decentralized applications on the Ethereum network that was launched in 2021. Its main target is to protect users from any personal data leaks. To achieve this, the Aztec team designed its tools to provide dApps users with anonymity.
The developers have raised more than $100 million in three rounds. The Worldcoin received approximately the same amount of money from ChatGPT's Sam Altman. One of the investors is the large venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz, which invested in Coinbase in the early stages (from 2013 to 2020). Coinbase is now the second-largest crypto exchange.
The crypto community believes that the ecosystem is in need of a token, so many are waiting for the Aztec airdrop in 2024. At this time, the team has not released any details about the possible giveaway.
